I watched this documentary last week and it blew me away!
It’s an awesome slice of the LA Glam Metal scene of the late 80s complete with interviews with the major bands of the time, fans, groupies, promoters and legends like Ozzy, Lemmy, Kiss, Alice Cooper and Aerosmith. The best bit is the fact that it was made in 1987 so no nostalgic look back in the time, just drunken rock n roll kids with makeup and hair as big as their egos. Their general attitude can be summarised in an interview with the owner of a sleazy Sunset Strip rock club.
Interviewer : “So tell me about Cathouse Rikki?”
Rikki Rachtman : “There’s more girls here than anywhere in the world and we play rock n roll.”
Yeah dude!
Fame at last!
We came second in the Best Free Magazine category at the Record Of The Day Awards 2009!! How awesome is that? Mike walked away with Best Editor as well so it was an all round BIG night for Kruger.
We Have Band photoshoot happening as we speak. Perou is on the case. Looking great and lovely guys too!
Amazing Chickenhawk video!
Quite possibly the best music video I’ve ever seen in my life! Turns out my mates Jen and Katie are in it as well.
Bang Bang Eche
Don’t be put off by the fact their EP is called Sonic Death Cuntttt, this band are ace and much more weird than this video suggests. Which is good! Kind of remind me of hearing Late Of The Pier for the first time although they sound nothing like them and aren’t half as ‘out there’. Still, they’re cool kids making exciting, dancable and decidedly odd music. What’s not to like?!
So, today I’m looking for bands for our class of 2010 section in Kruger 24. This means alot of listening to wierd and wonderful stuff the vast majority of which won’t end up featured but is worthy of a mention.
I’m gonna start with this weird garage band from Washington DC, a bit of the Screaming Jay Hawkins about them with a scuzzy lo-fi heart. Pretty damn cool I reckon. Playing over here in November.
Free Portasound track on NME.com
Kruger favourites Poratsound have a free download available through NME.com. We put a single out for them through the Kruger Singles Club about this time last year which won them Huw Stephens as a fan and helped bag them a Maida Vale Session. James from the band once described them to me as Tropical Squid Disco and I couldn’t agree more.
They played the song in question (excellently titled ‘Press Red For Burt Bacharach’) when they headlined the Kruger stage at the Swn festival the other week and it was pretty much awesome!
